How the Hackers Lost and I Kinda Won

The current newsletter is posted here to update our Blog readers on the events of the last few months.

Russian hackers broke into my website three times in the last year and I’ve had enough. Support4Change didn’t have financial information they could use, but that wasn’t their focus.

Instead, the hackers wanted to change my code so visitors would be redirected to other sites.

The cost to fix this and to stay ahead of the hackers has been more than I care to deal with. I already wasn’t making enough from the site to make ends meet and at my age I don’t need the aggravation.

So I’ve decided to close the website and shut down my business. BUT THE BLOG WILL CONTINUE.

Here are three reasons why only the blog in a new format works for me:

  1. In the past two decades, I’ve created four websites visited by tens of thousands every month, but I have not been a successful entrepreneur. If I were to continue to function as a business, it’s unlikely I would make enough money to continue maintaining a website.
  2. My primary focus online has always been to make a difference in people’s lives. The blog can still be a vehicle to do that.
  3. There is a great deal of content on Support4Change.com that can be used as posts on the blog. I won’t have to write something new each week.

What will the “new” blog be like? As you know, Support4Change had three main sections, healing relationships, understanding yourself, and finding inspiration. The blog will have only one section – which is whatever I want to write. Visit the blog to see if you are interested in the same things that interest me. (Of course you can always find specific topics of interest by using the search bar or tags.)

The bottom line is that the hackers have lost a website to use for their purposes (though there are millions of other sites they can attack). However, for me, having an outlet on the Internet for writing and designing videos that is better protected from hackers means I am ahead of the game.

Incidentally, this is a perfect opportunity for me to deal with my perfectionism. Because of some technical problems with the new format, the blog doesn’t look at all like it will eventually. Hang in there with me.
